4x4 Transfer Case

Are you hearing a strange squealing or grinding noise from underneath your 4x4 vehicle as you drive? Unusual noises tend to be the first sign that something is wrong with your car, like it's calling your attention to get help – sort of like a 911 call. A noise such as the one just described may mean that there is something wrong with your transfer case – but there's still time to do something about it!
First and foremost, it is important for you to know what you might be dealing with. The transfer case is a part of the four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive systems that can be found in cars and is connected to the transmission and the front and rear axles. Its main functions are receiving power from the transmission and sending it to the axles and synchronizing the difference between the rotation of the front and rear wheels. When your transfer case has problems larger than a screeching sound, it can mean rougher-than-normal rides and ultimately having your car (and therefore you) stranded somewhere. In other words, your transfer case allows your vehicle to, basically, move.
If you have doubts about the current state of your 4x4, it's time to pay Tommy Transmissions a visit – and even if you feel at ease with the feel of your transfer case, it's always a good idea to have it inspected. Unfortunately, transfer cases are something every driver will be concerned with at one point or another: they don't last forever.
